We sat down with Hermann Riedl, Managing Director of Inchcape Hellas, to discuss Inchcape’s International Management Trainee Programme. The programme was recently launched as a pilot in the Greek market within the Europe & Africa region.
“This initiative strengthens our culture of continuous learning and collaboration, fostering the global mindset and cross-functional capabilities that are crucial for driving innovation and business transformation. I believe it is a unique opportunity, as they join a leading, fast-growing and successful business, where they can have a long and outstanding career.”
Hermann Riedl, Managing Director Inchcape Hellas
What is the primary goal of this initiative?
The primary goal of the International Management Trainee Programme is to develop the next generation of leaders for Inchcape by offering them a wide range of real-world experiences. By rotating our trainees four times in two years between different functions, brands or countries, we accelerate their learning and provide them with a wealth of experience and a broad personal network that will enable them to better ‘connect the dots’ to become effective leaders. Overall, the programme is an attractive proposition for high potential recruits – which are excited by the rotation learning experience and the international exposure and who with a ‘normal’ job advert might not be able to reach, thus an expansion of our EVP footprint. As Inchcape is a place where new starters are empowered to thrive, develop their expertise and broaden their horizons, we feel that this programme strongly reflects that approach.
How does this programme tie into Inchcape’s Accelerate+ strategy, particularly with respect to our culture & capabilities?
This initiative aligns perfectly with Inchcape’s Accelerate+ strategy, which focuses on nurturing high-potential talent, supporting young people and developing diverse, adaptable leaders. By offering a comprehensive, hands-on programme, we ensure that our trainees get an in-depth understanding of Inchcape’s core functions and strategic priorities. This initiative strengthens our culture of continuous learning and collaboration, fostering the global mindset and cross-functional capabilities that are crucial for driving innovation and business transformation. I believe it is a unique opportunity, as they join a leading, fast-growing and successful business, where they can have a long and outstanding career.
In what ways does this initiative bring value to Inchcape’s business and its long-term objectives?
The programme directly supports Inchcape’s long-term goals by attracting and developing a pipeline of future leaders who not only have deep functional expertise, but also a global perspective on our business. By providing these young professionals with a broad range of experiences and skills, we are preparing them to step into key leadership roles within the business, ensuring that Inchcape has the talent and capabilities needed to succeed in the ever-evolving automotive industry. As such, this initiative strengthens our ability to remain agile, competitive and innovative on a global scale delivering for our brand partners and customers.
What are your expectations for the trainees as they rotate through various departments and gain exposure to different cultures and markets?
I expect Aristotelis and Dimitra to approach every rotation with an open mind and a proactive attitude. Each department, whether it’s marketing, sales, or finance, will offer unique challenges and learning opportunities. The cultural exposure from working across different markets and being part of a brilliant diversity of people, will be invaluable, not only for their personal growth but also for shaping their understanding of how Inchcape operates globally. They will have many opportunities to learn and grow, and fully apply themselves with drive and commitment to take things on. My expectation is that they will take initiative and bring fresh perspectives to the teams they work with, contributing to the overall success of the programme.
As Aristotelis and Dimitra start their journey with Inchcape, what advice or thoughts would you like to share with them?
As they embark on this exciting two-year journey, I would say: take full advantage of every opportunity you have. Be curious, challenge yourself, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Remember, this programme is not just about learning skills; it’s about growing as a person and a leader. Build relationships across departments and markets, learn from your mentors, and always seek ways to make a meaningful impact. The experiences you’ll gain here will shape your future at Inchcape, and the connections you make will be invaluable as you grow within the company.
A few words about the programme
Designed to attract and develop future leaders, the programme provides hands-on experience across multiple departments and markets. The two successful trainees, Aristotelis Ioannou and Dimitra Yfanti-Katti, were selected from over 400 applicants and will have the opportunity to rotate through various functions such as marketing, sales and finance, while receiving training and coaching from experienced professionals. They will also have the unique opportunity to move to another market within the region for six months to gain exposure to different brands and cultures. At the end of the two years, trainees will move to a permanent role within Inchcape based on performance and business needs. The programme promises not only professional development but also a deeper understanding of Inchcape’s businesses, helping to shape the next generation of leaders.
A special thank you to Hermann for taking the time to share his insights on the International Management Trainee Programme. As our two trainees embark on this exciting two-year journey, we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing how this initiative will develop future leaders and drive growth across Inchcape.
